How It Started...
It all began one pivotal day in 2004. Joe Echo-Hawk was 20 years old, living in Los Angeles playing in a slightly terrible rock and roll band that on this particular day had broken up. While sitting on a curb next to his motorcycle eating a $5 Hot-N-Ready pizza, his phone rang. A friend from high school wanted him to come to Alaska and work on a fishing boat. It was an easy yes.
The summer was filled with adventure and salmon and by the end Joe had covered the expenses of plane tickets, fishing gear, licenses and food and come home with a few hundred dollars for his efforts. The season financially was something of a bust, but the draw of a fishing way of life and all he’d begun to learn was at work. Next summer, he was back in Alaska, and every summer since.
After 5 years of working as a crewman for friends, Joe found a one-sentence ad on Craigslist advertising the sale of a small fishing operation. The lead turned out to be a great opportunity next door to the friends who’d originally brought him to Alaska to fish. Joe started fishing for himself in 2009, and when friends and family asked for some of that salmon harvest, Kwee-Jack Fish Co. got its start.
Fast-forward to today… Joe rarely eats Hot-N-Ready and has zero motorcycles, but has a wonderful wife and two young boys. Kwee-Jack grows through the efforts of friends and family who share their love for Alaska’s incredible harvests. We are lucky to have the greatest group of customers we could ask for. Their frequent thank you's when they pick up their seafood shares provide us with immense satisfaction. For more than a decade we have developed our mission to provide access to one of the healthiest foods on the planet, wild from nature. Environmentally symbiotic fishing practices paired with sustainable harvest help to ensure that this food source will last for future generations. If the fishing methods are not both sustainable and good for the environment, we won't offer that product.
A Story of Family
Brother & Sister
Anna & Joe started the endeavor of bringing fish back to friends and family back in 2009. After a decade and a half, Anna has been able to join the fishing crew and see everything full circle.
The Wyoming Brothers
Tristen & Dalton. These brothers came up a handful of years ago and are a hoot. Always up for some hard work and an adventure, their attitudes are never more excited than when the nets are plugged full of fish and we're in for it. Tristen is headed to the Air Force and will be missed.
Father & Son
Rhett and his son Toby. Rhett brings with him over two decades of fishing experience in Bristol Bay. His limitless patience and deep knowledge have helped to train up many of our crew, which now includes his son.
