Wild Alaskan Black Cod (Sablefish) – 6 oz Portions
Order wild Alaskan black cod (sablefish) for home delivery directly from Kwee-Jack Fish Co. Black cod is prized for its exceptionally rich, buttery flavor and silky, flaky texture. Its naturally high fat content helps it stay moist and tender during cooking, making it an excellent choice for both experienced cooks and simple weeknight meals.
Our wild-caught Alaskan sablefish is portioned into convenient boneless 6 oz servings, individually vacuum sealed and frozen to preserve its quality, flavor, and texture. Keep individual portions in your freezer and thaw only what you need.
Wild-Caught Alaskan Black Cod
Black cod and sablefish are two names for the same fish. Despite the name "black cod," sablefish is not actually a true cod. It is a distinctly rich, high-fat fish found in the cold waters of the North Pacific and Alaska.
If you'd like to learn more about the fish itself—including black cod vs. sablefish, flavor, nutrition, sustainability, cooking methods and other frequently asked questions—visit our Ultimate Guide to Wild Alaskan Black Cod & Sablefish.
What Does Black Cod Taste Like?
Wild Alaskan black cod has a rich, buttery and mild flavor with a silky, tender texture. The natural oils in sablefish help it remain moist during cooking and give it a noticeably richer texture than lean white fish such as Pacific cod or halibut.
Its combination of rich flavor and forgiving texture makes black cod especially well suited to roasting, broiling, grilling and miso-style preparations.

How to Cook Black Cod
Black cod is one of the most forgiving fish to prepare because its natural oils help keep it moist under high heat. It works particularly well roasted, broiled or grilled and is famously suited to miso-style marinades and preparations.
For more detailed cooking information and additional ways to prepare sablefish, see our Ultimate Black Cod & Sablefish Guide.
Storage & Thawing
Keep your black cod frozen until you're ready to use it. For refrigerator thawing, remove the fish from its vacuum package and place it in a covered container or food-safe bag in the refrigerator. Once thawed, keep refrigerated at 38°F or below and use within 2 days.
For a quicker thaw, a vacuum-sealed portion can be placed in cold water until thawed. Remove the fish from the vacuum package and cook it immediately after thawing. Do not thaw fish in warm water or leave it thawing at room temperature.
